Keep Kitchen Utensils Handy

Now that I'm pursuing a more natural, organic lifestyle, I have several recurring activities that require my attention daily, bi-weekly, weekly, or monthly. For example, I make kefir every day; I make some type of fermented garden vegetable a couple of times per week; I make Kombucha tea weekly; and I make sauerkraut monthly.  I got tired of putting utensils away and getting them out again. So, I decided to make it simpler for myself by doing things differently.

I had a cute silverware basket that I had no intention of putting in a drawer (who would see the chickens on it?). Turns out, it's just the right size and configuration to hold my assortment of often used utensils.

I was especially glad to get those sharp food processor blades out of a drawer and away from my hands. Also, my spatulas, plastic spoons, and whisks are much easier to grab and put back after washing.

It's so much easier to store the plastic strainers and measuring cups I use in working with fermented foods when they are hanging up in otherwise wasted space. I like this particular space next to my cooktop and back under the upper cabinets.

I used 3M Command hooks attached to the base of the cabinet. This is not only much more convenient for me, it also freed up a LOT of space in the kitchen drawers. Now, it's easier to find things I have stored in the drawers.

Look around to see if you have something you can re-purpose and put to good use while adding functionality. If it fits your personality, it's good decorating!
